AVAILABLE ADULTS & GUARDIAN HOME OPPORTUNITIES

Guardian Home Opportunity

We are considering a Guardian Home for our merle tricolor male Bernedoodle. This gorgeous boy is almost 2 years old and weighs 34 lbs. He is crate and doggy door trained and gets along with other dogs.

Please read the Guardian Home details below and reach out if you are interested.

What is a Guardian Home?

We occasionally place young adults into a guardian home which allows us to grow our program and improve our genetic diversity while maintaining happy, healthy Doodles.

As a guardian home, you will be the permanent home for one of our breeding dogs. We will borrow them back for a set period of time, after which they will retired (spayed or neutered) and continue to enjoy their life with you.

Do we get to pick the puppy?

We sometimes place young puppies in guardian homes, but we have found that for the most part, older puppies or young adults have an easier transition. Males and females need to come back into our home for breeding and/or whelping/raising puppies and it is easier on them if they are familiar with our home and with being handled by us.

As for selection, we make the choice on which first puppies we keep (or bring in from an outside breeder). As a breeder, we have to be extremely picky on the criteria for our future breeding dogs and consider the health, color, coat, size, temperament, genetics and relatives.

Even though we are making the selection, you are getting a gorgeous, health tested, first pick puppy or young adult from an excellent breeding program.

Is there a cost to be a Guardian Home?

For puppies, there is a $500 cost for one of our puppies. For older puppies/young adults, there is no fee. You will be responsible for normal ownership costs (feeding, training, grooming, toys, treats, vaccinations, routine vet exams etc. and the cost to spay/neuter (when they are retired) just like you would with any canine you are responsible for. We will be responsible for any breeding related costs (ultrasounds, progesterone testing, puppy count x-rays, hip and elbow x-rays, genetic testing, health testing etc.).

You will be responsible for transporting them back to us as needed. Sometimes we can arrange to meet you part way depending upon your location.

How do I know if I would be eligible to be a Guardian Home?

You will need to reside within Oregon and have the ability to bring the dog to us, sometimes with 48hrs notice.

You cannot have plans or work in a field where you might be moving out of state within a few years.

You must be willing to keep them intact until they are ready to be retired.

When females are in heat, you will need to keep them home and away from other dogs.

You will need to bring them to your vet for ultrasounds and/or puppy count x-rays as needed.

You will need to keep up with a good grooming schedule and regularly provide photos and updates to us. Well groomed, posed pictures may occasionally be needed so we can share them on our website.

You will need to provide all the normal requirements for basic commands, socialization, exercise, mental stimulation and crate training.

You are required to have a fenced yard and no other intact dogs.

You will need to be attentive and timely when seeing first symptoms of a girls heath cycle.

You will need to be willing to feed any food and vitamins we require for the health of a breeding dog.

Finally and very importantly, you must be able to communicate and coordinate with us. We will be trusting you with a very valuable element of our program and relying on you to cooperate with the sometimes short timing that is inevitable.

What happens if I change my mind?

Being a guardian home is a big commitment. A breeding prospect (puppy or dog sold with breeding rights) is typically $7000 to $8000 dollars. You are required to follow the rules set forth in the contract and we maintain the microchip in our name until they retire at which time we transfer it into your name.
